A service agent is a person designated by a corporation or limited liability company (LLC) to receive legal documents and lawsuits on its behalf in any state where it does business. The agent must be a resident of that state and a natural person. The term is a variation on the more familiar registered agent, who is the agent for service of process of a business entity.A customer service agent is a person who interacts with customers from a call center, usually via telephone or video chat.
Their job is to answer questions and resolve customer issues. The best customer service agents are able to empathize with customers and find solutions that satisfy them. Customer service representatives should also be well-versed in the product lines and services offered by their employers.

The minimum educational requirement for a customer service agent is a high school diploma. A person with a degree in a relevant field, like a bachelor’s in communications or a master’s in customer service, may be a more qualified candidate.
A motor carrier employer can use service agents, such as specimen collectors, breath alcohol technicians and screening test technicians, to help implement its DOT drug and alcohol testing program. These service agents must be approved by the DOT as meeting its regulatory requirements, and can be subject to civil penalty actions for serious noncompliance. Service agents are also subject to a public interest exclusion (PIE) process for repeated violations of the regulations, under 49 CFR Part 40.
